(Nasdaq: FDRY) today announced that Mortgage Information Services and McKenzie Sports have selected ShoreTel voice systems for deployment on Foundry's high-performance network infrastructure. McKenzie Sports migrated its voice system and network infrastructure simultaneously, but came to the same conclusion about the ShoreTel and Foundry combination. Both MIS and McKenzie Sports are voice-intensive businesses that can't tolerate phone-system outages. "If the phones don't work, we die," said McKenzie. "95% of our orders come over the phone, so if we don't have phone service, we aren't making money." ShoreTel's uniquely distributed and highly resilient architecture is aptly complemented by the fail-safe capabilities Foundry packs into its switches.
McKenzie installed a Foundry FastIron product as its core switch, using two of the eight slots for fiber blades with integrated management. "That gives us redundant management," McKenzie said. Similarly, MIS was looking for a POE solution that would continue to supply electrical current to the phones throughout a power failure.
"We experimented with other POE switches," Crawford said, "but in order to configure them with redundant power, you had to have an external battery. And to get all 48 ports powered, you needed two external batteries. Foundry built everything - POE and redundant power - into the switch chassis. And you get more switching power for your money. The extra performance is a big advantage."
The ShoreTel and Foundry solution also delivers leading price/performance. "They won the price and features comparisons hands down," McKenzie stated. "It was an immediate touchdown. They didn't even have to play. ShoreTel reclaimed a lot of the capacity on our WAN bandwidth and equipment, and these savings will multiply as we add locations."
